The WPIAL Board of Control officially passed the new alignments for the WPIAL fall sports on Tuesday afternoon, including girls volleyball, boys and girls golf, boys and girls cross-country, girls tennis and girls field hockey. 2011 has been a tremendous year in high school sports in the WPIAL. It was a year where some familiar champions wore the golden crown again while some new faces surfaced in the championship picture. The latest chase for the MSA Sports Cup is underway as the 2011-2012 high school sports fall season is in the books. Hershey is known world wide as Chocolate Town, USA. However on Saturday to five WPIAL girls tennis players, Hershey became the Golden City. Four great WPIAL girls team tennis programs continue to go back and forth like a good volley in winning district gold. The first WPIAL championship of the 2011-2012 school year will be decided on Friday, September 23rd with the WPIAL Girls Singles Tennis Championships. It was a tough state tournament showing for WPIAL tennis players in both the PIAA Singles and PIAA Doubles Boys Tennis Tournaments. The only district player to make it through the Quarterfinals was WPIAL Class AA Singles chamion D.J. The 2011 PIAA Boys Team Tennis Championships were WPIAL free Saturday afternoon at the Hershey Racquet Club in Hershey. The furthest District 7 team to advance was WPIAL Class AA champion Sewickley Academy as the Panthers lost Saturday morning in the Semifinals.
