The 2013 MSA Sports All-Netters team looks like the 2012 squad, as three of the ten members graced last year's squad. The selections were made by members of the MSA Sports Network broadcast team and features four WPIAL champions and one PIAA titlist. Beaver Falls Joins Lower Merion, Imhotep & Vaux as 2013 PIAA Boys Basketball Champs

Only Beaver Falls survived the State Semifinals as fellow WPIAL members New Castle, Montour and Lincoln Park all came up just short in their quest to play for a boys basketball title in Hershey. So the Tigers ended up alone, but they carried the District 7 banner high and proud as they captured their fourth PIAA boys basketball crown and first state title since 2005.  Here are ALL the final results from the 2013 PIAA Boys Basketball State Playoffs. Spring-Ford, South Park, Bishop Canevin & Tri-Valley Win 2013 PIAA Girls Hoops Crowns
The WPIAL captured half of the PIAA girls basketball championships as the finals returned to the GIANT Center in Hershey for the first time since 2006. The state championships won by South Park and Bishop Canevin mark the first time since 2005 when Oakland Catholic won in AAAA and Serra Catholic in A. While the Eagles in AAA and Crusaders in AA won first time state crowns, Vincentian Academy had to settle for silver when they fell in the Class A title game. Bishop Canevin Claims PIAA Gold in Hershey in Class AA Girls Championship

The Bishop Canevin Crusaders claimed their first ever PIAA Class AA basketball championship with a furious rally in the fourth quarter to defeat the York Catholic Fighting Irish 45-38 at the Giant Center in Hershey on Friday afternoon.Seniors Carly Forse and Celina DiPietro each scored 18 points to lead Bishop Canevin. The Crusaders trailed 33-28 heading to the fourth quarter but scored 13 straight points in the fourth, holding the Fighting Irish scoreless thru the first six minutes of the final frame.York Catholic fell in the title game for the second straight year and fourth in the last five years. The loss for the Fighting Irish ended a 7 game winning streak this season and a 9 game winning streak at the Giant Center.

New Castle, Montour, Beaver Falls & Vincentian Win 2013 WPIAL Boys Hoops Titles

Four teams with recent championship experiences got another sweet taste of gold in this seasons district playoffs. Top-seeds New Castle in Class AAAA and Beaver Falls in Class AA won championships for a second straight year. The Red Hurricane made history by becoming the first boys teams to win back-to-back titles in different classifications and with undefeated records each year. Plus #2-seed Vincentian Academy won the Class A title for the second time in three years while #3-seed Montour also celebrated their second crown in three seasons. Bethel Park, South Park, Bishop Canevin & Vincentian Queens of WPIAL Court
A #1 seed, a #2-seed and a pair of #3-seeds walked away from the district postseason wearing the gold. Vincentian Academy was the only top seed to prevail as the Royals won a second straight WPIAL championship. A team that settled for silver in 2012 won gold here in 2013 as South Park captured the Class AAA crown. Meanwhile, a pair of teams captured their first ever girls basketball gold as Bethel Park won in all in Class AAAA and Bishop Canevin stunned Seton-LaSalle to win the Class AA title. New Castle Masters Perfection as Canes Beat Hampton Again for WPIAL AAAA Gold

The third meeting of the year between New Castle and Hampton turned out to be like the first two. In fact, it turned out a lot like the previous 25 games for the defending Triple-A champs turned Quad-A beasts. The Red Hurricane rocked the Talbots with a big second quarter and rolled to a 68-53 victory Saturday night before a raucous crowd at Duqnuesne Univeristy's A.J. Palumbo Center.Things were quiet for the first two minutes of the game.  Scoreless, even.  Then, a Brandon Dominick three opened up the flood gates for New Castle.  Ryan Luther answered for Hampton, scoring his team’s first five points.  The Red Hurricane slowed things down to close out the quarter, and led 19-15 and the end of one.

Montour Comes back to Topple #1 Chartiers Valley in Boys AAA Finals
Trailing by nine points at the half, Montour turned up the heat on defense, holding Section 5 rival Chartiers Valley to 11 second half points en route to a 47-40 victory Friday night at the A.J. Palumbo Center at Duquesne University. The win gives Adam Kaufman and the Spartans their second WPIAL Class AAA championship in the last three years.Spencer Casson, Chartiers Valley’s 6’6” senior center, made his presence known from the start, opening up the scoring with what would be his first of three dunks in the first quarter.  Casson led the Colts through the first with 10 points and four rebounds.  Montour standout Devin Wilson was held to only two first quarter points, as the Spartans trailed 18-11 at the end of one.
