We said so long to September football and greetings to the Boys of October. The final half of the WPIAL and Pittsburgh City League football regular season will be played as both the leaves and the temperatures start to drop through the tenth month of the year. Even though three former WPIAL players are starting at Pitt and Penn State (Jonathan Baldwin, Mike Shanahan, Derek Moye), the WPIAL hasn't been known for producing many big-time receivers over the years. It was a bit of a soggy start to the Week Five weekend in the WPIAL and Pittsburgh City League on Thursday. While the spotlight shined on Class AAAA and the Northern Seven Conference in the WPIAL, the Pittsburgh City League featured a battle between two of the top three teams through four weeks. At 99 year old Youghiogeny Country Club, the WPIAL Boys Division II Golf Championships were played Wednesday. The 2010 WPIAL Girls High School Tennis Singles Championships were held Friday afternoon at Pine-Richland High School with bright beautiful sunshine and a strong blustery wind. For a fall day, the girls had no worries of rain or cold temperatures, but the wind was a problem all afternoon.
